Summer Journal 2005
Stream-of-conscious style journal I made out of an old craft book documenting my first summer break from art school in Kansas City, which I had begun as a thirty-two-year-old freshman in August of 2004. That summer I traveled by train and bus and in cars with friends. I visited Colorado, San Francisco, San Diego and spent a lot of time in Los Angeles and in various parts of the Monterey Bay Area, which is where I'm from. It was a special time of solitude, introspection and reconnecting with loved ones and landscapes. People were very kind to me. I was taken to a ton of concerts and to an amazing Basquiat retrospective among many other things. I was fed very well and I was a vegan. I started collecting and wearing vintage polyester pant-suits. I've blurred out things on these pages that involve others who really don't need to be publicly involved in my crazy book of thoughts. At the time, adding to the book felt like some kind of ceremony and gave me a sense of power, healing and transitioning. I would also like to note that I was not on drugs, this is just how my mind works.
